Pine Canyon

In 1915, the Sunset Highway between Wenatchee and Coulee City was still using the 1908 route up the old wagon road. It was that year when a survey was made for a new section of highway between Orondo and Waterville. The construction of 5 miles beginning at Waterville and extending westerly was undertaken by Honor Camp #5, which was established in Corbaley Canyon. There were 20 to 70 honor men that were employed between May of 1915, to July 1, 1916. The work performed by Honor Camp #5 was quite successful. After the abandonment of the camp on July 1, 1916, the work on the 5 mile section was completed in 1918 by day labor.
