The Historic Sunset Highway
in Washington

Fall City to North Bend

Description of the Route

The Sunset Highway leaves Fall City and follows SR 202 toward the Falls. The original road turns right at SE Fish Hatchery Rd and continues to the end of this road at the bottom of Snoqualmie Falls. I believe the old highway used the wagon road to climb the hill.

In 1917 the highway was realigned at today's SE 46th St and continued up the hill as it does today.

About 1925 the highway completely bypasses SE Fish Hatchery Rd.

At the Snoqualmie Falls Parking lot the 1915 road continues again on SR 202 through downtown Snoqualmie and turns left onto River St. The highway then turned right onto Falls Ave. Then left onto Newton St. and continues on Park St. to Meadowbrook.

The Highway follows Park St as it turns into Boalch Ave. then crosses the Snoqualmie river and enters North Bend.

About 1925 the road was realigned at Snoqualmie and stays on SR 202 all the way into North Bend to meet up with North Bend Way.

In 1935 the road completely bypassed Fall City and Snoqualmie. At Preston the new highway follows the Westbound lanes of I-90 to North Bend Way and into North Bend. This is known as the Echo Lake Cutoff.
