South of the Alcoa Plant

This section of the Sunset Highway started out as the Colockum Road in 1882. By 1885, a new road had been built to the Okanogan and Coulee City. This was the first link between the Puget Sound and Spokane. All the stages, freight and mail bound for Wenatchee passed through here.

In 1919, this section became the Southern Division of the Sunset Highway and the main trunk line went over Blewett Pass to reach Wenatchee. By 1922 with the opening of the North Central highway between Vantage and Davenport, this section of highway was abandoned and the ferry ended it's service.
